Our Commitment to Sustainable Building Practices
Increasingly, our building practices reflect a commitment to the sustainability of natural resources. The goal is two-fold: minimize environmental impact while helping residents and businesses lower their energy consumption and costs. Some of the “green” approaches we use include:
- Recycled and quickly renewable building materials
- Ionic and plexi air filters for cleaner and healthier air
- Energy from renewable sources (solar and wind)
- Low VOC emission building materials
- Energy Star appliances that lower energy consumption
- Environmentally friendly flooring made from bamboo, a quickly renewable crop
- Landscaping with native plants

L+M was the first developer in this region to participate in New York State’s Brownfield Program, designed to transform and revitalize properties that have been subject to contamination or hazardous waste. Parkview Commons (right) in the South Bronx was a former gas station that we cleaned up and converted to an affordable housing development.
The Kalahari (right), built to the US Green Building Council’s LEED Certified Standards to limit environmental impact, is an example of our firm's integrated approach to green development. It combines quality construction with materials and products that are not only beautiful, but sustainable.
